Wrangler Rear Bumper Tire Carrier Upper - JK & JL Shield
JcrOffroad's Shield Carrier is designed for those looking for a convenient one hand operated tire carrier for the Jeep Wrangler JK and JL.
- CNC cut and formed from 3/16" Steel.
- Two-way adjustable tire mount (Tire Height, Wheel Backspacing).
- Will bolt onto either our Vanguard or Crusader Rear Bumpers.
- Will accommodate up to a 38" Tire.
- Features JcrOffroad Bomb-proof spindle.
- Tailgate swinging operation.
- Easy Bolt-on Installation.
- Includes mounting hardware.
- Includes JcrOffroad Sticker.
- Hand built in the USA!
- Will not work with a body lift, use our Adventure carrier for that application.
- The tire mounts are designed for a wheel mount surface to tire sidewall distance of 5 - 8" (this should not be confused with backspacing, the tire sidewall will add extra width to your backspacing number.) The tire needs to be adjusted tightly against the carrier once installed to help stop vibrations from fatiguing the tire mount, carrier, or bumper. If your tire does not sit flat against your tire carrier when installed please contact us.

This was part of an larger order, front, rear, skid plate and tire carrier. There is no doubt that the craftsmen that physically built this bumper have pride in ownership. Welds are clean as they come, with a nice balance of non-perfection that hand welding provides. Finish was good, but not as durable as one sees in other manufactured baked finishes. For as nice as this was built, it was one of the worse engineered products I have seen in a while. The mechanics are the pits. Simple doesn't make good sense. The metal shield bolted directly on a painted surface is sickling, especially for a new car. Then to remove the water shields to allow water to come into the rear door amazes me that JCR would allow this out of their Q&A department. It simply does not make sense. I spent days re-engineering proper water management for the shield, and then better wiring for the apex of the swing of the carrier. Finally a detachable pin that allows me to open the tire carrier separate from the door so I can actually get the door fully open. Lastly, I needed to put the license plate in a better spot not to cover my expensive rims (my choice, not a flaw of the product). Lastly to move my lug-nuts from metric to SAE is a JOKE. Why in the world would I want to have different lug nuts on my spare tire than that of the vehicle??? Not to mention a different locking lug? I spent another $100 to get around that issue as well. All in all, this was a disappointment, and I really should have made a different choice for tire carrier. Mechanically it's a nightmare, engineering wise not thought out at all. All in all, checks the 'quality' box as an A+. Well thought out box a 'F'. Finish a 'B+', packaging a 'A'.

I installed the tire carrier this weekend on my Crusader bumper from JCR. It is awesome. It's an amazing fit with no fighting the install. Everything is tight and has a great fit. It's all of the highest quality. With both pieces coming in at different times and having never been mated up together in the beginning, I was amazed. These guys do a great job. No worries ordering one piece and then another later on. It'll fit!

Carries my 35" Duratracs with ease and looks great. The operation is flawless. I like the fact I have some adjustability with the mechanism that attaches it to the tailgate. Having the HiLift mount is a definite plus. The install was fairly straight forward. The only issue I had was I couldn't quite figure out which way to put the seal in. A quick call to JCR answered the question. The joints that attach the carrier to the tailgate needed a couple washers to make the fit a little tighter and reduce rattle. Spraying these down with WD-40 on occasion will also eliminate squeaks. Another awesome JCR product.

Love the look of the tire carrier and the fact that I can mount my hi-lift and cb antenna on it, and that it opens with the tailgate. I've been rocking it for over a year now, through various trails, and no problems.

I like this tire carrier as it opens with the tailgate so your not trying to undo 2 latches and it is Solid. I like the High Lift Jack setup for it too you just can't go wrong with this purchase and it is an easy install too. moto401crf

Nice unique styling. After about six months, the notches are showing a small amount of rust. Pay special attention to those areas if powder coating this yourself.

There aren't many one-handed operating bumpers out on the market which is why I chose this one after asking around. Assembling the bearing, JCR LED brake light, and heim joint were easy. My only problem is after countless hours adjusting the heim length, my spare rattles "more like rumbles" and squeaks over every little bump in the road. So my solution was to put weather stripping in the V of the isolator which so far seems to be working, only time will tell.

Bought this with the Vanguard bumper. Very exact fitting, tight tolerances. Once installed, very smooth operation. I'm running 35's and it's like I have a 28 inch on it feels so light. I powder coated after I received it and it looks awesome. A great investment if you are taking your spare with you.

Excellent build quality, fit and finish. I was amazed how easily it installed with all the correct parts included. Amazing what you get for the price. Took a bit to clean and prep for paint than some other things I've had but it's expected and nothing worthy of degrading the overall product. Thanks again JCR for another perfect product!
