We've sold many rear tire carrier bumpers over the years, and only a few have had issues with spindle strength. Even though previous spindles were rated for 1,000lbs, it seems that the constant vibration of a select few tire/jerry can combos has been too much.
The new spindle we are using on all tire carrier rear bumpers is nothing short of ridiculous. The spindle itself is 1.5" in diameter inside the bumper, and 1.375" diameter outside. That is .375" larger than the previous spindle. Both upper and lower bearings are common Timken Set 5 tapered rollers, and the 3" OD (up from 2") body is finished off by a thread in aluminum cap.
What does that mean for you?
Cost
These are completely custom machined and much more expensive. As such we have eaten some of the cost, and rolled some into the product cost.
Warranty
If you currently have the older spindle on your tire carrier and it's working fine. Great, you’re among the majority that have.
If your older style spindle breaks, it will be covered under our lifetime warranty, and as such the free replacement will include the old style spindle. Unfortunately we have to limit this to ONE free replacement in the lifetime of the product.
If at the time of warranty you wish to upgrade to the current larger spindle, that option is available at an additional cost to you, please call for more info.
As always we are happy to offer the strongest parts possible for your ride, and appreciate your continued support.
