Q Taylor Morlock • 07/13/2020, 10:39:47 PM I baught one of these cause my oe one was broken. Apon install i noticed that its not springy like the oe one. It also doesnt latch or have movement. Is it supposed to have movement and latch, or just be like a handle? Thanks!
A 07/15/2020, 12:39:23 PM It may need to be bent slightly to match and latch your lid center console combo. The aluminum (and the lid) should have just enough spring to latch and unlatch once adjusted. Please reach out to customer service if you are having issues after adjustment.

For $39, I thought this would be a steel latch with a hinged, spring loaded catch. It’s just a piece of malleable stamped aluminum. When you operate the latch, it just bends, which prevents it from latching again when you close the console lid. JCR: you’re better than this. Get a 3D printer and make these out of a tough plastic like Delrin. Then they’ll be worth the 5 minutes it takes to install them.

Really like JCR stuff but this latch appears to be made of aluminum. Not steel so it will bend instead of flex. There is no such thing as spring aluminum!! So it is of no use as a replacement latch. I was able to use an angle grinder to cut the latch part off and rivet that to my broken plastic latch so now I have a working latch again. But that is making lemonade from a lemon. Make it from spring steel guys and it will work.

The latch is good quality, and definitely beefier than the stock one that snapped. However, you constantly have to bend the latch to get it to close again after opening the center console. But it does latch so I will give it that, but for the price, I'd expect it to work flawlessly.

I like the latch it is more heavy duty than stock, yes you have to push/bend the handle down each use but at least it latches and stays closed every time, would buy again.

I bought this latch to replace the missing plastic latch that was missing & probably had been broken for years when I bought my "97 Cherokee XJ. It is very sturdy & is great quality.

You'll have to bend it to get it to latch and even then the lid isn't closed snugly. It isn't broken like the plastic one but not sure if buy this again. Seems like a little more refinement and it would latch a little better.

I broke 2 plastic ones on the first day of owning them. I was thrilled to find a metal one - disappointed to learn after install that it’s really not functional - it’s a great sturdy product regarding the build, but it doesn’t really work - the “spring” required for the latch doesn’t really work so you need to basically bend the latch each time you open it and close it for it to be a snug fit. 25 bucks would be better spent on beer and Velcro.

I thought the latch would be a little springy but it’s not just bendy,
It bolts in but doesn’t latch, had to bend the part that sticks down down and around to get it to latch somewhat, overall it’s better than nothing but still not what I expected when getting a regular “bolt on” item

I was looking at yards for a replacement for a while but was never lucky enough. Glad I found this one. Its solid and easy to install. The only negative is that the metal is thinner than the plastic so the door is able to open a bit more when latched but nothing that affects the normal function of the center console.

Latch is nice and of top quality. Unfortunately it didn’t actually latch. It looks nice but doesn’t function for me and my XJ.
