A Little Short?
(San Diego) | December 18th, 2019
I bought these as I liked the design, and I was looking for an upgrade over the stock rails. They are a significant upgrade, providing a nice step that doesn't sacrifice clearance. I had a little harder time with the install than the video would make it seem, but that seems to be the way it goes. Mounting to the body bolts really anchors them in and they are tough. My only significant complaint is that they seem to be a bit short - maybe 2 inches short per end. I'm comparing that to the stock Rubicon rails, which cover the entire lower body panel, these leave a small gap in coverage behind the wheels. Maybe with larger tires this is not a big factor, but with stock 33s, it feels vulnerable. I am not sure why this was the conscious design for the rails when the rest of the rail seems so solid.
Note From JcrOffroad: Yes, they are sized for clearance for larger tires without cutting as well as to meet shipping restrictions.
Great design, Bad instructions
(Nashville, TN) | September 25th, 2019
Very cool bumper once you get it together, unfortunately thats easier said than done. It comes with no instructions in the box and the “instructions “ on the website are almost a hindrance as they are so poorly thrown together they actually sabotage the construction. The steps arent even in the right order. Also be aware that the plasma cuts that are made leave over 1/4” gap to be filled after folding, which is very difficult to fill with a mig welder. If you have about 10-12 hours on your hands and you dont mind doing a LOT of trouble shooting and back tracking give it a go. It is a good looking bumper certainly, but understand that they want you to buy the pre fab version, what you save in money you will vastly pay for with your time.
Good product

The bumper is solid and I can't see this thing ever falling apart. The only downside is that the assembly and installation instructions are almost completely useless. In order to get any idea what I was doing, I had to go to YouTube. Why JCR doesn't provide instructions, I don't know.

One of, if not THE, very best tire carrier designs to date! However, there IS room for improvement: 1. The tire carrier hinge & latch points should come inside another 3 or 4 inches so as NOT to block the taillights and turn signals "this compromise of safety is unacceptable", 2. The weight of the entire unit should be dropped considerably by using aluminum for the tire rack components & designing the bumper more ergonomically without compromising strength significantly & incorporating more efficient, modern design elements as evident in the original OR-FAB Rear XJ Bumper, now out of production, and 3. The combined price of the entire System is the same price as a rebuilt engine!! The engineering is beautiful, but compared to the amount of engineering to make an engine...! WTF, really???

First I will state I ordered this tire carrier through 4wheelparts.com who ordered it directly from JCR according to my communicatios and email records. I went through 4wp because I was able to save $50. The tire carrier alone is $800+ which I did not realize when I first purchased my JCR rear bumper. I have front and rear bumpers from JCR and believe they have great build quality. My dissatisfaction in the tire carrier comes from three things. First is the price. $800 is steep for a carrier but ok. Second the carrier has paint chips all over it. Pictures were taken. Mishandled maybe in transit but for $800 would be nice not to have to repaint sections myself. Oh and it's painted black, not powdered coated black so it doesn't even match the bumpers. Lastly the lack of up to date instructions. It went together fine but the carrier I received had a few different parts than the online instructions stated, one of which was cheap Duralast bearings instead of the high quality Timken bea

Ordered the JL version with 3rd brake light. The fabricated metal brackets were of great quality. The electrical component were not so great. The LED for the license plate had wires much too small for the supplied butt connectors. Had to fold bare wires over to make them thick enough for the supplied connectors to hold. Additionally, the ‘double-sided tape' for the plate LED was worthless and I had to use double sided tape of my own. I'm hoping it stays on. The 3rd brake light was not the one from the video instructions, and did not install anywhere near the instructions. The ground for the 3rd brake light has a terminal end lug routes to the front of the light, in plain sight as you look at the light. Not visually pleasing at all. Additionally, no hardware was supplied to attach the 3rd brake light bracket to the license plate. The supplied spare wiring for the license plate LED was only 8” long and only made it from the passenger brake light assembly to the inside of the Jeep
