This mount is very stout. The problem I encountered is that it hits my liftgate when shut. It chipped a decent piece of paint off when I closed it the first time "I should have checked". It is mounted flush behind the light, so it is not due to mislocation on my part. Gonna grind the spot down so it doesn't hit anymore and repaint. Wish it didn't require modification and didn't chip my paint.

I put this on my 98 XJ, and it's completely over built and the powder coating is pretty good. That being said it is a tight fit, almost to the point that it wouldn't go in. It's not tall enough on the back and touches the top of the fender well, so I had to bend it to get it in. Also I wish they would've supplied new nuts for the 3 bottom bolts instead of having to reuse my old rusty ones. But despite that this is a good upgrade to my broken plastic box. Thanks JCR.

You can't always keep the greasy side of an XJ down, but you can keep it from starting on fire with a secure battery in this steel tray. As always, JCR's quality is sky high. Because they don't write it in the specs, I crossed my fingers hoping that like the late model stock XJ trays, it would fit a type 34 without modification, and it does.

The flutes are not sharpened all the way up to the full diameter and when reaming for an ES2027L or ES2026R you run out of reamer before the hole is tapered large enough.

Overall Im very happy with the shield tire carrier but I did run into a few issues. Some of the hardware that came with it were different than what is shown in the installation video. Also a few of the hardware pieces did not fit my 98 TJ and I had to make a few trips to the bolt store to find what I needed. Other than that everything went smooth. gerlachlan

Great bumper, VERY Strong and looks great! It shipped with spray in foam around it to protect the powdercoat I additionally asked for. Only real issue I has was the mounting location for the bottom part on the drivers side was slightly bent in, I had to hammer it out flat to get the bumper to slide onto the frame. Nothing I couldn't handle. All in all, outstanding bumper, very pleased with how it is constructed and looks on my TJ.

Instructions are always lacking. There were no instructions for the universal tire mount, which you have to tighten the bolt until the pins lock into place. This is nice in the future if i change my bolt pattern as they come out with a lot of hammer hits. My other issue is the track for the pin on the right side is too short on a Tj. When closing the carrier the pin slides off the track and sits on the bumper. When opening the carrier you have to first open the latch and then go to the other side and pop the other side. You can fix this with a washer, but jcr should just make a longer track. I might contact JCR about a couple issues. Overall though fantastic carrier and literally bomb proof, the price is high, but this carrier is high quality.
