Nothing will ruin a trip faster than a whistling tent at 70mph heading out west. Tents create a lot of turbulence, and depending on the tent, how it's positioned front to back and up and down, can take the trip from fun to miserable. The bolt-on fairing fixes the turbulence issue and gets you and your spouse back on speaking terms.
