Can You Really Add a Winch to the Factory Bronco Bumper?
When Ford released the 6th Gen Bronco, they did something we really liked. They offered a factory steel bumper that actually looked good on the vehicle.
For a lot of Bronco owners, there wasn't an immediate reason to replace it. The problem came when you wanted to add a winch.
Ford had its own solution, but it was tailored toward Broncos without adaptive cruise control, proximity sensors, or a front camera. If you checked some of those option boxes when you ordered your Bronco, adding a winch became a much bigger challenge.
We saw that problem pretty early. JcrOffroad was the first aftermarket company to bring a winch mounting solution to market for the factory Bronco bumper. Being first was great, but that wasn't really the hard part. The challenge was figuring out how to package a winch around all the technology Ford had put in the front of the Bronco.
It was a pretty big undertaking, but it was exactly the kind of problem we were up for solving.
TL;DR
Yes. If your 2021+ Ford Bronco has the factory Modular Steel or Capable Bumper, you can add a winch without replacing the entire bumper.
Our mount works with factory adaptive cruise control and proximity sensors. Broncos with the 360-degree camera can use our optional Camera Relocation Bracket to help minimize obstruction from the winch.
We've verified fitment with Warn ZEON 8/10/12, Warn VR EVO 8/10/12, and Harbor Freight Badlands Apex 12,000 lb winches.
Why Not Just Replace the Bumper?
You certainly can, and for some Bronco owners that's still the right answer. If you want a different look, more protection, additional lighting options, or other features the factory bumper doesn't provide, a complete aftermarket bumper may make more sense.
But if you already like the factory bumper, replacing it just to mount a winch is a pretty expensive way to solve one problem.
That's where a winch mount makes sense. Ours is completely bolt-on, built from 3/16-inch steel, and includes integrated machined recovery mounts. It's finished in our satin-textured black powder coat over zinc primer and works with both the Modular Steel and Capable factory bumpers.
What Happens to Adaptive Cruise Control and the Proximity Sensors?
This was one of the biggest engineering challenges when we developed the mount.
Modern bumpers aren't just bumpers anymore. There are sensors, cameras, radar modules, wiring, and other components competing for space around the front of the vehicle.
The factory proximity sensors remain functional with our mount, and the adaptive cruise control module stays in its factory location. You don't have to choose between having a winch and keeping those features.
What About the 360-Degree Camera?
The front camera presents a different problem because the winch physically sits within its field of view.
For Broncos equipped with the 360-degree camera system, we offer a Camera Relocation Bracket that moves the camera to help minimize the obstruction.
We want to be transparent about that. Relocating the camera improves the view, but it doesn't magically make the winch disappear. If you use your front camera regularly on the trail, expect to still see some of the winch.
Which Winches Fit?
We've physically verified fitment with the Warn ZEON 8, 10 and 12, Warn VR EVO 8, 10 and 12, and Harbor Freight Badlands Apex 12,000 lb.
That doesn't mean those are your only options. There are simply too many winches on the market for us to test every one. If you're considering another model, compare its overall dimensions to one of the winches we've verified.
If you're still unsure, give us a call before buying the winch. That's much easier than discovering a clearance problem after your Bronco is already apart in the garage.
Can You Keep the Ford Safari Bar?
Yes. The mount is compatible with the Ford Safari Bar.
If you don't have the Safari Bar but want some additional protection around the winch, we also offer our Baja Bolt-On Hoop.
Is a Factory-Bumper Winch Mount Right for You?
It really comes down to what you're trying to accomplish.
If you're looking for a completely different bumper, additional protection, or a different style, start looking at aftermarket bumpers. There are plenty of reasons to go that direction.
If you already like your factory Modular Steel or Capable Bumper and the missing piece is simply a winch, that's the problem this mount was designed to solve.
