Diode Dynamics: The Best Factory Replacement Fog Lights for Your Jeep Wrangler JL?
Published November 5, 2026
Yes, I think the Diode Dynamics Elite Series is one of the best factory replacement fog lights you can put in a Jeep Wrangler JL, which is why we chose it for our Crusader and Vanguard bumper bundles. It throws an approximately 80-degree-wide fog beam with a sharp cutoff, meets SAE F3 fog-light photometric requirements and, in the Dual-Color version, gives you white and yellow in the same light.
TL;DR
✓ Jeep's factory JL fog lights barely do anything. Most of the time you can hardly tell they're on.
✓ The Diode Dynamics Elite Series throws an approximately 80-degree-wide fog beam with a sharp cutoff and meets SAE F3 fog-light photometric requirements.
✓ The Dual-Color version gives you white and yellow in the same light, switched with your factory fog-light controls.
✓ They're what we chose for our Crusader and Vanguard JL bumper bundles. They're engineered and assembled in St. Louis, Missouri, and backed by an eight-year limited warranty.
Jeep's factory fog lights leave just about everything to be desired. I'm sure you've done the same thing I have. Flick them on, flick them off, then back on again just to see if they're actually working. The difference is so small you can barely tell.
At JcrOffroad, we've worked with several lighting manufacturers over the years. I've personally been a Baja Designs fan for a long time. Their fit, finish, and performance have always been excellent. But in recent years, I've started switching more of my personal vehicles over to Diode Dynamics. I've been impressed with what you get for the money, and they've been a great company for us to work with.
That's why we chose the Diode Dynamics Elite Series Dual-Color fog lights for our Jeep JL bumper bundles.
What's Wrong With the Factory Jeep JL Fog Lights?
My biggest complaint is that they don't seem to do much. Depending on your Jeep's factory lighting package, you might struggle to notice any improvement when you turn them on.
A fog light should illuminate the road immediately ahead of your vehicle and toward the shoulders without throwing unnecessary light upward. It isn't supposed to replace your headlights or project light hundreds of yards down the road.
The Diode Dynamics Elite Series addresses this with an approximately 80-degree-wide beam pattern and a sharp cutoff that keeps light directed toward the road. Rather than simply making the lights brighter, the optics put more usable light where you need it.
The Elite Series also meets SAE F3 fog-light photometric requirements, making it suitable for on-road fog-light use when properly installed and aimed.
Can You Get White and Yellow in the Same Light?
This is probably my favorite feature of the Dual-Color Elite Series.
You don't have to choose between white and yellow when ordering. You get both, and you can switch between them using your factory fog-light controls.
I generally prefer white for clear conditions. Yellow can be more comfortable in rain, snow, fog, and dust, where reflected light can become distracting.
I've spent enough time driving in poor conditions to appreciate having options, especially when they don't require installing additional lights or switches.
Keep in mind that color isn't everything. Mounting height, aiming, and beam pattern still have a significant impact on how well fog lights perform.
Is It a Factory-Style Upgrade Without the Extra Work?
I've never been a big fan of adding unnecessary brackets, switches, and wiring to a vehicle.
The Elite Series is designed to fit compatible factory fog-light locations and connect to existing wiring using the appropriate adapters. You can improve your lighting without making the front of your Jeep look like a science project.
There is one thing to pay attention to: Jeep uses different fog-light mounting arrangements depending on the factory bumper. Make sure you order the correct kit for your JL.
If your Jeep didn't originally come with fog lights, additional wiring and controls may be necessary.
Why Did We Choose Diode Dynamics for Our Bumper Bundles?
When we put together a bumper bundle, our goal is to make upgrading your Jeep easier.
You shouldn't have to spend hours figuring out which lights fit which bumper, what brackets you need, or whether everything will work together. We've already done that work.
Our Crusader Mid-Width Bumper Bundle and Vanguard Full-Width Bumper Bundle include Diode Dynamics Elite Series Dual-Color fog lights alongside our American-made steel bumpers and other accessories.
We chose these lights because we like the product, trust the company, and believe they offer excellent value. They're engineered and assembled in St. Louis, Missouri, and backed by an eight-year limited warranty.
The bundles also save customers money compared with purchasing the included components separately.
If you already have lights you're happy with, there's no reason to replace them just because you're buying one of our bumpers. We offer individual components for that reason.
Can You Upgrade Your Factory Fog Lights Without Replacing Your Bumper?
Absolutely. In fact, if you're happy with your factory bumper, this is an upgrade I'd consider before replacing anything else.
Diode Dynamics offers replacement kits for compatible Jeep Wrangler JL factory bumpers. We carry the Elite Series fog lamps for the JL plastic factory bumper, which fit Sahara, Willys and Rubicon models with the plastic bumper. You can improve your lighting while keeping the original bumper and factory-style appearance.
Just confirm which bumper and fog-light mounting arrangement your Jeep has before ordering.
Who Is This Upgrade NOT For?
✗ It's not a simple swap if your Jeep didn't come with factory fog lights. Plan on additional wiring and controls.
✗ It's not the right kit if you order without checking your bumper. Jeep uses different fog-light mounting arrangements depending on the factory bumper.
✗ It's not worth it if you already have fog lights you're happy with. There's no reason to replace them.
✗ It's not a replacement for your headlights. A fog light isn't supposed to project light hundreds of yards down the road.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Diode Dynamics fog lights better than the factory JL lights?
For many owners, yes. The Elite Series provides a wider, more controlled fog-light beam. How noticeable the improvement is will depend on whether your Jeep originally came with halogen or LED fog lights.
Can I switch between white and yellow?
Yes. The Dual-Color Elite Series lets you change colors using the factory fog-light controls. Follow the supplied instructions for switching modes.
Are Diode Dynamics Elite Series fog lights street legal?
The Elite Series meets SAE F3 fog-light photometric requirements. Proper installation, aiming, and local lighting regulations still apply.
Do I need a new wiring harness?
Not typically if your Jeep has compatible factory fog-light wiring and you're using the correct replacement kit. Jeeps without factory fog lights may require additional wiring.
Do I need to replace my factory bumper?
No. Compatible replacement kits are available for factory Jeep JL bumpers.
How much do Diode Dynamics Elite Series fog lights cost?
We carry the Elite Series fog lamps for the JL plastic factory bumper for $259.95, and the Dual-Color version adds $60. They're also included in our Crusader Mid-Width Bumper Bundle ($1,259) and Vanguard Full-Width Bumper Bundle ($1,319).
What warranty comes with the Elite Series?
Diode Dynamics backs the Elite Series with an eight-year limited warranty, and the lights are engineered and assembled in St. Louis, Missouri.
Which kit do I need for a Rubicon with the factory steel bumper?
Rubicon models with the factory steel bumper need Diode Dynamics' Type MR kit. The kit we carry is the Type M version for the plastic factory bumper on Sahara, Willys and Rubicon models.
Are Diode Dynamics the Best Factory Replacement Fog Lights for the JL?
I think they're one of the best options available, and they're what we've chosen for our JcrOffroad bumper bundles.
I've used plenty of different lighting products over the years, and I've learned that spending more doesn't always get you a better result. Baja Designs still makes excellent lights, but Diode Dynamics has earned more of my business by delivering products that perform well at a price that makes sense.
If you've been doing the same on-off-on test with your factory fog lights, the Elite Series is worth a look.
