Upgraded hatch struts may be needed. We've used Lift Supports Depot 6315-W with success (https://www.liftsupportsdepot.com/strong-arm-6315-gas-charged-hood-lift-support/) you will need to unscrew the top ball and socket mount on the new strut and screw the strut into your stock hatch eyelet style mount. Make sure the threads are the same.

distance it sticks off the back of the XJ for purposes of other rear racks and tire mounts. Need to know if I have the clearance with my homemade tire carrier.

A 11/03/2022, 12:31:33 PM With good struts, no. But a strut upgrade may be necessary depending on your specific Jeep. As long as your rack doesn't extend beyond the end of the roof, it should be fine.
