A few weeks ago, a customer reached out about a front bumper and rock sliders for his Jeep Gladiator.

Everything looked great until he got to checkout.

"I get charged an oversized fee on the sliders. What's that for?"

It's a fair question, and one we hear often.

Most of what we sell ships like anything else you'd order online. But some of our larger bumpers and rock sliders come with an extra $150 oversized fee, and it's not always obvious why.

So let's pull back the curtain and explain what that fee actually covers.

• Most JcrOffroad products ship at standard $9.99 rate, no oversized fee.
• Larger bumpers and rock sliders are long, heavy, and awkwardly shaped, which pushes them past what UPS and FedEx consider a standard package.
• Carriers charge us an oversized surcharge on those shipments. We pass that $150 fee along at cost. We don't mark it up.

Why Do Some Products Trigger This Fee?
UPS and FedEx don't just price by weight.

They also price by length, girth, and how much space a package takes up compared to a "normal" box.

A set of rock sliders or a full-width bumper can easily run several feet long. Even when the weight itself is reasonable, the dimensions push the package outside standard pricing tiers.

Once a package crosses that threshold, the carrier applies an oversized surcharge automatically. It's not something we choose to charge. It's built into how UPS and FedEx price freight of that size.

Why Doesn't JcrOffroad Just Build It Into the Price?
We could.

A lot of companies do exactly that: fold the fee into the product price and advertise it as included.

We'd rather be upfront about it instead.

If we built the $150 into every bumper and slider, customers who don't order those larger items would effectively be subsidizing the ones who do. That didn't sit right with us.

So instead, the fee only shows up on the products that actually trigger it, and it's listed clearly at checkout. No surprises at the end.

Is the $150 Fee Profit for JcrOffroad?
No.

The oversized surcharge is a pass-through cost. UPS and FedEx charge us that fee on qualifying packages, and we charge it forward exactly as we receive it.

We're not marking it up or using it to pad margin. It simply reflects what it costs to get a large, heavy product safely to your door through a standard parcel network instead of freight.

Which Products Does This Apply To?
Not everything. Most of our catalog, including smaller armor, MOLLE panels, and accessories, ships at standard rates with no oversized fee at all.

The fee generally applies to:

• Larger bumpers, especially full-width or heavy-duty builds
• Rock sliders, due to their length

If you're not sure whether a specific product carries the fee, it will always be shown clearly on the product page and again at checkout before you pay.

Final Thoughts
Nobody loves seeing an extra line item at checkout.

But when a product is long enough or heavy enough to push past what a standard package carrier allows, that oversized fee is simply the real cost of getting it to you safely and in one piece.

We'd rather show you exactly where that $150 comes from than hide it inside the price of the product.
